Viruses & Spyware

Many Viruses & Spyware can be difficult to remove. However, Rocket Mouse can remove them on-site or remotely whenever and wherever. However, this is a process that can take several hours for each infected system.

Viruses & Spyware can be installed on your computer without your knowledge and can use keystroke logging techniques to collect passwords you enter, your bank account numbers and PINs, your credit card numbers, and other personal information.

The effects of this identity theft can be costly and very time consuming to rectify. Everyone should take steps to detect and remove any Spyware running on their computers, and to guard against its future installation.

A related category of software, Adware, may cause pop-up advertisements to appear on your screen, change your home page, disrupt your network.

Ransomware

Ransomware has become a lucrative tactic for cybercriminals.

No business is immune from the threat of ransomware.

When your systems come under ransomware attack, it can be a frightening and challenging situation to manage. Once malware infects a machine, it attacks specific files—or even your entire hard drive and locks you out of your own data.

The best way to stop ransomware is to be proactive by preventing attacks from happening in the first place. The first step to take is to always backup your system. Locally, and offsite. This is essential. First, it will keep your information backed up in a safe area that hackers cannot easily access. Secondly, it will make it easier for you to wipe your old system and repair with backup files in case of an attack. Failure to back up your system can cause irreparable damage. Use a cloud backup solution to protect your data. By protecting your data in the cloud, you keep it safe from infection by ransomware. Cloud backups introduce redundancy and add an extra layer of protection.

Helpful Tips

  • Apple, Microsoft, Amazon will not call you to alert you that you have a virus. This is a scam!
  • Do not allow anyone to log into your Mac or Windows PC if it’s not a trusted company.
  • Do not unsubscribe from emails in which you’ve never subscribed to.
  • Don't answer calls from unknown numbers. If you answer such a call, hang up immediately.
  • You may not be able to tell right away if an incoming call is spoofed. Be aware: Caller ID showing a "local" number does not necessarily mean it is a local caller.
  • If you answer the phone and the caller - or a recording - asks you to hit a button to stop getting the calls, you should just hang up. Scammers often use this trick to identify potential targets.
  • Do not respond to any questions, especially those that can be answered with "Yes."
